Pyramid of Success

John Wooden

Block 1: Industriousness

"In plain and simple English this means hard work. Very hard work. There is no substitute for very hard work when it comes to success."

Reflection:
One of the first blocks we are discussing about is industriousness which is work but not just any type of work, its the most hard work one can do. Its like hard work pays off

“I prefer to earn it or work for it. It makes me appreciate it more.”  - Anonymous

Block 2: Enthusiasm

"It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins"

Reflection:

Enthusiasm is our power source, it always keeps us going. Whether we are doing something important or just anything in particular we have at least some enthusiasm in ourselves during those times. It involves a lot of positivity and inspiration

"Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.”  - Anonymous

Block 3: Friendship

"Comes from mutual esteem, respect, and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."

Reflection:

Friendship is something we form from an early age until the last of our days. Some friendships work out and some don't, even so thats how its going to be. When we start in elementary you become friends with some other students and end up being friends with them until middle school or some friendships just ended a grade later but that's ok. During middle school you probably loose some friends that were your friends in elementary but thats fine because you meet new people but there are also the people who actually stayed with you. Then you move on to high school, where yes again you loose some friends because you meet new onces but is totally fine but just remember that there will always be that friend that sticks with you for the rest of the time being. Its just a cycle that happens but the true friendship you create are with you through the  whole journey.

“True friendship isn't about only being there when it's convenient, it's about being there  when it's not."  - Anonymous

Block 4: Loyalty

"To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."

Reflection:

Another important block in creating the pyramid is loyalty. Loyalty is something hard to build and of course to make as well as to find. So that why you have to learn and built loyalty yourself to be able to share it with everyone else. With that your able to build up trust and meet new people and of course built loyalty. Don't forget you also have to have devotion and faithfulness to what ever you're trying to be loyal too. If its a person you have to be loyal to then think before you act. First get their trust, be friendly or get to know them better and let it flow, don't rush it. Slowly but surely, you'll be able to gain that person's trust and after your loyalty will build up but keep in mind that you have loyalty from the very start.

“Loyalty is rare...If you find it, keep it." - Anonymous

Block 5: Cooperation

"With all levels of your co-workers. Listen if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way."

Reflection:

Cooperation is very important especially in our daily lives because we use it every time and in my case it would be in school with the other students, where i use it most of the time. Cooperating can be fun but at times can be very difficult, thats why you have to work it out step by step. Where Ive seen most of cooperation being use is in sports especially in sports because you have to cooperate with your team to win and understand what your going to be doing and who is going to take lead and who will fallow. Its all a big puzzle where everyone has to squeeze in and fit the picture.

Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are the ocean." - Anonymous

Block 6: Ambition

"For noble goals"
Reflection:

Ambition is temptation, a desire to do something. This is very important especially toward your goals. You have to have ambition to achieve them if not they're just going to be sitting there, not being achieved. You have to also have determination to achieve your goals. Its this desire you get to complete it and it keeps you going. Ambition isnt the only thing you need though, you also have to put yourself in and put your part. Ambition is very important especially in teams like football, cheer, and all those extra curricular activities. You also need ambition in school especially grades where if you want that D turned into an A then use ambition but also work hard towards it. It might not be easy at first but youll slowly get there and before you realize it, it will become a habit.

“Ambition is believing in yourself even when no one else in the world does." - Wale

Block 7: Self-Control

"Practice self-discipline and keep emotions under control. Good judgement and common sense are essential"
Reflection:

Self-control is very important but can be very hard sometimes. Its pretty much having temptation but you have to resist. You have to work hard to not be tempted to do what your not suppose to do. It can help you in many ways just depends what your going to self-control yourself on like loosing weight. If you want to loose wait maybe stop eating junk food and instead replace it with something healthy like cute fruit with lemon or salt and then you can move on to just cut fruit. You can also self-control yourself with procrastinating like doing homework late. Maybe start doing homework little by little and sooner or later

"Self-control is a key factor in achieving success. We can't control everything in life, but we can definitely control ourselves.”  - Anonymous

Block 8: Alertness

"Be observing constantly. Stay open-minded. Be eager to learn and improve."
Reflection:

Alertness is used each and everyday by us and is technically required for us to use no matter where we are at. It is very important and you also have to work with it to make it grow stronger. Its pretty much focusing what's around you and being aware of the things happening at that moment and seeing things through. At the same time your also seeking to improve like in a sport, you see others having these skills and observe what they do and their techniques and then you make yourself improve and improve ever more than they do.

"One just needs a little alertness to see and find out: Life is really a great cosmic laughter”- Anonymous

Block 9: Initiative

"Cultivate the ability to make decisions and think alone. Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it."
Reflection:

Initiative is being the one who stands out. The one who takes the lead and the one who takes the win-win. You also do what you were never told because you can think and do stuff for yourself. The only thing that can stop you is how to get there but once you get the hang of it you'll be a pro and of of course doing the initiative and standing out.

“You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man's initiative and independence.”  - Abraham Lincoln

Block 10: Intentness

"Set a realistic goal. Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptations. Be determined and persistent."
Reflection:

Intentness is very important to all of us especially to ourselves. We have to believe in other and that you too. We have to plan out and stay with the course that is given. You also have to try harder and think smartly of every move you take. Of course you also have to be determined because with out that you can't start anywhere.

“Be mindful of intention. Intention is the seed that creates our future."
 - Anonymous

Block 11: Sincerity

"Keeps friends."
Reflection:

Sincerity is something hard to find but once you find it, make sure you to keep it. Building up your own sincerity can be quite hard and easy to loose but that's how you build up like try try again until you get it. Of course you have to start somewhere so trying be honest, that includes being honest to yourself and once you have that down you can move on to being honest with others. You also have to say the truth at all times which is being included with your honesty. Even if its the most littlest lie you have every told, just say the truth, be honest...I'm sure you won't regret it. There's also being genuine, you have to be real like the way you act is the same way you are inside, there's nothing to hide. Above all of these, you have to realize that sincerity comes from the heart. It can't just be an act you take out from time to time, it has to be always and of course with meaning. Being sincere can help built trust and of course being believed in and above all you have to be serious about everything, don't take things lightly.

Don't claim you're sincere, just be it." - Eva Heller

Block 12: Adaptability
"To any situation"
Reflection:

Everyone adapts one way or another but at times it can be hard. You have to be able to do things at the right moment, you honestly don't have time to think because you move so fast but thats the beauty of it. Its like in a game like soccer for example, your sitting down while other members in your team are playing but you always have to be ready to go in if there's change in players or someone got injured. You have to be ready and of course when your in the game be ready and be able to adapt to your surroundings. There are times where we arent able to adapt to anything because it was all sudden so its a challenge but at the same time your slowly adapting to it even if you dont realize it, its kind of like moving into a new house. You dont like it at first but then you start exploring the place and start liking it and slowly you start realizing that in all honesty, it really isnt such a bad place and when you start living there you get use to it until you don't realize anything out of the normal because you adapted. Thats honestly the beauty of it because we all start with not liking something or not use to it and slowly start doing the opposite and start liking it and of course get use to it.

Block 13: Condition
"Mental-Moral-Physical. Rest, exercise and diet must be considered. Moderation must be practiced. Dissipation must be eliminated."
Reflection:

Condition is very important, there is either good condition or bad condition but all involves change.

“The best condition is the one you can change." - Anonymous

Block 14: Skills
"A knowledge of and the ability to properly and quickly execute the fundamentals. Be prepared and cover every little detail."
Reflection:

Skills let you obtain many things in different areas. You can have the most simplest skills up to the most difficult skills on this planet.

“When love and skills work together, expect a masterpiece."
- John Ruskin

Block 15: Team Spirit
"A genuine consideration for others. An eagerness to sacrifice personal interests of glory for the welfare of all."
Reflection:

Team spirit is being able to cooperate with others and being able to work well. You also have to be part of the team, you have to get along and make an effort. When you realize what team spirit is, its really not "Take one for the team" type of thing its more like,"We are one, one as a whole". Its just like winning together and falling together, we all pick ourselves up. Everything would make sense with there is no I in team.

"No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it." - H.E

Block 16: Honesty

"In thought and action."

Reflection:

Honesty is a very important block in the pyramid of success. We all deserve honesty as well as give honesty because its the right thing to do. There are times where honesty can be very painful but it's way better than being lied to. There are times where it's going to be hard to be honest but its better than keeping it to yourself and causing even more trouble. Honesty will always be important especially because it reflects your own feelings and thoughts and of course all of you. Being honest also involves not lying, stealing, cheating and even deceiving in a way. But it also helps you build relationships and friendships which benefit you in life. You also gain trust while loosing stress and of course wellness. There are many benefits from it, you just have to start now and take action immediately!

"No matter how plain a man or women can be, if the truth and honesty are written across their face, they will be a sight to see."- Anonymous

Block 17: Resourcefulness
"Proper judgement"
Reflection:
Resourcefulness is very important through out our daily lives. There are many things we have to obtain to be resourceful which includes, being open minded, being self-assured, as well as being imaginative, proactive, and of course persistent and most important of all them, hopeful. Being open minded means you must be passionate about breaking boundaries and redefining what is and is not possible. When your self-assured you like and trust yourself,  you believe that you are competent and adequate enough to achieve what you desire, you get things done. Being imaginative doesn't mean you have to always be creative,  you can just think outside the box and make things better than what they really are. If you have to be proactive you have to leave procrastination behind and get things done.

"Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is."- Ernest Hemingway

Block 17: Poise
"Just being yourself. Being at ease in any situation."
Graceful and elegant bearing in a person.
Reflection:

Like the matchmaker in Mulan once said," You must also be poised." Being poise is very important and probably the most easiest thing to be even when it can be hard at times. Pretty much all you have to do is be yourself but it can be a challenge due to feeling fear of being yourself in front of others or sharing your intelligence with others or just anything that has to do with you. Even so don't let anything stop you because you are the only you, you can be and whether you try to hide it, in reality you know that isnt you. There will be a point where you can't hide who you arent anymore and then you'll have to be forced to be yourself which is not good so it's better to be yourself at once and all times.

"For poise: walk with the knowledge that you are."- Audrey Hepburn

Block 19: Confidence
"Respect without fear. May come from being prepared and keeping all things in proper perspective."

Reflection:

Confidence has a very strong meaning and of course its really hard to have especially having confidence in yourself or in others but you can slowly make it happen. It might be hard at first but slowly, step by step, you can get to your goal which is confidence. The first step can be tapping into the confidence you were born with, like your sense of style, you really didn't care because everything was awesome especially sweats back in my day or colored jeans, wear them like a boss. You also have to know your strengths and weaknesses, know where your at and know what you can do to improve on them, start seeing who you really are. Another step is expecting success, dont bring yourself down and say you can't do it because try try again will always get you there and eventually you'll be able to do it even if it does take time, so be patient. You also have to expect your capabilities because you are you and nothing can stop you and of course you are capably of doing anything you just have to put some efforts in it, give yourself a little push.

"Confidence comes from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong."- Anonymous

Block 20: Reliability
"Creates respect"
Reflection:

Reliability is a very important key to our pyramid of success. We are able to produce good results time after time. There is also being able to depend on someone or something which also counts as reliability. Reliability can be found in many forms, it doesnt always have to be a person like your phones for example,

"The shifts of fortune test the reliability of friends."- Anonymous

Block 21:Fight
"Determined effort"
Reflection:
Fighting is a strong word and used for many things. There's so many types of different "fight" definitions in the dictionary but the over definition that is looked at the most is fighting for victory. Whether its for winning a race, getting something done, or even improving on something, you are fighting for it. The one thing that is always pointed out is are you trying your very best? If so youll noticed that your self-esteem is boosted, youll notice that your way more confident than before and above all you believe in yourself that you can do it!

"You wake up every morning to fight the same demons that left you so tired the night before, and that, my love, is bravery." - Anonymous

Block 22: Competitive Greatness

"Be at your best when your best is needed. Enjoyment of a difficult challenge."

Reflection:

Being competitive is important but being competitive and with greatness you can accomplish anything. Being competitive can be very useful in life and of course can come in handy but is it really the best you give in? Mayb e so but if you add a little of greatness and mix them together it can be alot easier and of course make you unstoppable! Its like in a game, your tired, your sweaty, and shaky and cant anymore but your brain and you yourself know you can keep going, that is competitive greatness because even if your body is giving up on you, you still continue because you are unstoppable. You might have a weakness but that weakness can because your true trick up your sleeve.

"Approach every situation with a whatever-it-takes-mindset" - Grant Cardone

Block 23: Integrity

"Purity of intention"

Reflection:
Integrity involves you being honest, as well as having wholeness.with strong moral principles that you refuse to change. If you are an integrative person you have nothing to fear because you have nothing to hide. You'll do the right things with out having any guilt. Your always speaking with honesty as well as thinking with sincerity. When you have integrity, your choosing your thoughts and actions based on your values instead of person gain which is like getting something back in return for what you have done.

"Integrity, you decide to make it, so stand up, be bold, and don't let everyone else define it."
 - Anonymous

Block 24: Faith
"Believe and Achieve"

Reflection:
Faith is a very important step in our pyramid of success. You have to have faith in you, in your friends, your family, and each and everything around you. Faith is a very strong word but when faith is put into something, it can be stronger. Its just like players having faith that they are going to win, that their team mates will do their best and that they will have faith in their selves to continue until the end. Faith also includes having trust or even building trust because you want to believe that everything will work out. When you have faith you never question anything because you get an answer right away, you dont have to rethink anything because everything is right before your very eyes.

"Let your faith be bigger than your fear." - Anonymous

Block 25: Patience

"Good things take time"
Reflection:

Patience is key and it is also included in our pyramid of success, a 2 in 1 deal. If your patient, you are able to bear anything at anytime no matter how long or how difficult it is. Being patient can be hard but slowly but surely you'll get use to it. Patience doesn't run when your a child because you want everything and anything to be done right away and yes that can still be shown when your older but you take it more seriously than causing problems. Some steps to being patience include breathing exercises, you can also learn how to slow down which comes in great handy, and also learn how to control your emotions which is very important even if your not doing patience in general.

"Have patience with all things, but, first of all with yourself." - Anonymous
Pyramid of Success Final Reflection
Write a final all-encompassing reflection about the Pyramid of Success.
1.How can the building blocks benefit you?
The building blocks can help me in many ways, one way is by being able to create strength with in my self since i was able to find some of my weak points.
2.Which blocks are you applying now?
The blocks that I am applying right now are enthusiasm and fight since right now Im going through a rough time but I'm sure with time and patience and of course a lot of work, Ill be able to get myself back.
3.What difference are the blocks making in your life?
Some differences that I noticed that the blocks are making in my life are seeing the changes that I have made like having faith. Back then I use to give up so easily but then slowly, little by little i started to realize that i could do things and that i just needed a little push and some faith to help me get anywhere and now i see myself not giving up as much as i use to.
4.How will you incorporate the other blocks into your Life Planning plans?
The way I will incorporate the other blocks into my life planning plans is by checking which ones i need to add more strength in and to see where i can do better and add on to in my daily life.
5.How will you pass this information forward? How will you teach the Pyramid of Success to other people?
To be able to share this information with others i can ask close ones about their troubles, give them an ear to listen so that they can open up and together we can see where they need help and its a good thing too because i can even help myself at the same time and learn new things or improve on things and of course its a good feeling that you get out of it so its pretty much a win-win.
